What is Live Red Youth?

Live Red Youth fundraisers are activities organized by young people in your school community. Their purpose is to raise funds and awareness in support of the Heart and Stroke Foundation (HSF) in Manitoba. Live Red Youth fundraisers incorporate fundraising, volunteerism and the promotion of healthy living, which are pillars of HSF. A fundraiser can be as simple as selling paper hearts to as complex as a fashion show – you choose!

As a Live Red Youth organizer, you fill the role of both volunteer and donor to HSF. You become an integral part of the Foundation. Your work to raise funds helps the Foundation to fulfill its mission, which is to lead in eliminating heart disease and stroke and reducing their impact through the advancement of research and its application, the promotion of healthy living and advocacy.

HSF is a volunteer-based health charity that relies on the generosity of Manitobans. It does not receive any core government funding and is not a United Way agency.

What does it mean to be a Live Red Youth?

It means:

  • Making healthy lifestyle choices today for a healthier tomorrow. There is an obesity epidemic that threatens the health of Manitoba’s children and youth. People are influenced by those around them. Change starts today with you!
  • Creating a spirit of philanthropy. As a Live Red Youth volunteer, you are a leader in the fight against heart disease and stroke. Funds raised support cardiovascular research, health promotion, and advocacy efforts that result in saving lives.
  • Gaining opportunities for education and growth. Your time and effort spent on event planning will help you develop life skills you can take to college/university and beyond.
  • The potential to earn scholarships. HSF in Manitoba has up to five $1000 scholarships available this year for which you can apply. A scholarship application form is available on this web site.
  • As a Live Red Youth, you will be changing the world one event at a time.
